Through a preliminary permit issued on Jan 9, 2013, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has granted permission to Corral Creek South Hydro to study the feasibility of developing a 1,100 MW pumped storage project near Twin Falls in Twin Falls County, Idaho.

An apparent lack of progress supplemented by lack of collaboration and inability to pay for project related recovery costs has urged Coalition members to petition FERC to cancel two preliminary permits in Oregon.

Free Flow Power (FFP), a developer that held a preliminary permit to study feasibility to develop hydropower at Cle Elum Dam on the Cle Elum River near Cle Elum, in Kittitas County, Washington, surrendered its permit last week.
Despite strong opposition from stakeholders, including HRC members, FERC has issued a preliminary permit to Boundary Creek Hydro, a subsidiary of Symbiotics seeking to develop hydropower on the Boundary Creek near Bonners, Idaho. The proposal includes building a diversion dam and a 6.4 mile long diversion pipe to be partially buried under a reconstructed road.
