Hydro project in California to get production tax credits

FERC has certified the Pit 3, 4 & 5 hydroelectric projects on the Pit River in California to be eligible for production tax credits (PTC) under the Energy Policy Act of 2005.In July 2007, PG&E had completed a turbine upgrade by installing a new runner, new wicket gates, and upgrading other electrical and mechanical components.

There have been increasing concerns in Utah about the proposed Lake Powell pipeline project which will also include hydropower projects. Although the project is primarily a water supply project, FERC has been charged to conduct the environmental analysis due to the proposal for power production.

Final Environmental Assessment Report issued for Cushaw

FERC has recommended issuing a new license to Dominion Virginia Power for continued operation of the Cushaw hydroelectric project on the James River near Glasgow, Virginia. The project occupies 4.12 acres of the Jefferson National Forest's James River Face Wilderness Area and 0.76 acres of James River bottom.Contrary to the licensee's proposal, FERC however, does not recommend measures to protect American Eel and American Shad in its Final Environmental Assessment (FEA) report.

License issued for continued operation of Ottumwa

On April 30, 2008 FERC issued a license for operation of the Ottumwa project located on Des Moines River in Ottumwa, IA- 80 miles southeast of Des Moines. This 3.25 MW project is operated as run-of-river consisting of a 18-foot high dam and three generating units.The license is issued on a condition that the City of Ottumwa, which operates the project, will provide FERC with plans and schedules regarding dam safety operations within 6 months of issuance of this license.
