The project will use the existing W. Kerr Scott Dam and Reservoir, which are owned and operated by the Corps and are not part of the licensed project. The W. Kerr Scott Dam and Reservoir were constructed by the Corps and became operational in 1963 to provide flood control, water supply, recreation, and low flow releases.
The existing Corps’ facilities consist of: (1) the 148-foot-high, 1,750-foot-long earth-and-rock-fill dam with a 400-foot-long emergency spillway; (2) a 1,475-acre reservoir at a normal pool surface elevation of 1,030.0 feet above mean sea level (msl); and (3) outlet works composed of a low-level intake tower with two intake gates, a 749-foot-long, 12.25-foot-diameter, reinforced concrete water outlet conduit, a stilling basin, and discharge channel.
