Is hydropower good or bad for the environment? We went to Idaho to find out

What’s more important: Tearing down dams that have decimated rivers and driven salmon and other fish toward extinction? Or letting those dams stay up, so they can keep producing carbon-free electricity that doesn’t worsen the climate crisis? That question has been on my mind since April, when I spent a week in Idaho exploring the pros and cons of hydropower.
