In the last year, Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) community has experienced 3800 reported incidents of violence, including verbal harassment, physical assault, civil rights violations, and online harassment according to @StopAAPIHate. This increase in violence has fostered fear for many in our communities as well as feelings of isolation.
In this moment of uncertainty and fear, we want to communicate to our community members who are experiencing these feelings that we are an ally. We stand with the AAPI community and condemn racism and violence.
Doing so aligns with SYRCL’s pledge to speak out against violence in our
Statement of Inclusivity that asserts: “I will not remain silent during pivotal political and cultural moments that impact BIPOC Communities.”
Many organizations have formed in response to this violence to make it visible, offer support, and demand change. If you are interested in supporting work to stop violence against AAPI, you can reach out to these organizations to learn what you can do to help:

We condemn violence in all forms. For too long it has silenced voices, erased histories, and allowed those who wield it to write rules that reinforce their power over others. SYRCL is working to help make silenced voices heard and restore lost histories within the work we do. This being said, we recognize there is much more work ahead of us. We hope you will join us in this work.
