Newton Falls is located on the Oswegatchie River in the town of Clifton,St. Lawrence County, New York. The project generates approximately 9,500 MWh of electricity annually.

The existing Newton Falls Project consists of two developments:

The Upper Development operates in a storage-and-release peaking mode and consists of a 600-foot-long, 40-foot-high, concrete dam; a 650-acre reservoir; a 1,200-foot-long by passed reach, a 1,200-foot-long penstock; a 375-foot-long2.3-kilovolt (kV) transmission line; and a powerhouse containing 3 turbine/generatorunits with a total rated capacity of 1.54 MW.

The Lower Development operates in a run-of-river mode and consists of a 350-foot-long, 25-foot-high concrete dam; a 9-acre reservoir; a 300-foot by passed reach; a 2,200-foot-long, 2.3-kV transmission line; and a powerhouse containing 1 turbine/generator unit with a rated capacity of 680 kilowatt(kW).
