The dam was constructed in 1923 and is currently owned and operated by Rock River Beach. The dam started generating power from 1940 and the power is used to light cabins in the area. In 1948, the project was connected to the interstate power grid.
The new 30-year license was issued in November 2014 to Rock River Beach, Inc.
