The Michigan Dam Safety Task Force was formed in the wake of the failures of Edenville Dam and Sanford Dam on the Tittabawasee River in May 2020. The purpose of the Task Force was to recommend policy, legislative, budgetary, and enforcement reforms to prevent future catastrophic dam failure events.
The final report of the Task Force includes 86 recommendations across eight key areas: Funding for Dam Maintenance, Repair, and Removal; Legislation and Authority; Improving Dam Safety; Compliance and Enforcement; Emergency Response; Program Management, Funding, and Budgeting; Safety and Security at Dams; and Outreach and Awareness.
